Image Review of the Week

Due to global warming, the swine flu, right wing extremism, predatory lending, Reagan budget cuts, and a recurring bout of restless leg syndrome, Image Review is on hiatus this week.

If the earth is still rotating on its axis a week from now, please check back.

Quotes of the Week

From the Light:
“The problems of taxation and government spending are not problems of representation or lack thereof. They’re problems which inevitably accompany the exercise of coercive power. Until our “Tea Party” participants understand that, they limit themselves to pruning branches on the rotten tree which they’d be better off chopping down entirely.”
Thomas L. Knapp

“While NATO provides Europe with a security blanket, it provides America with what she cannot live without: a mission, a cause, a meaning to life.”
Pat Buchanan

“I am all too afraid that a historian, a hundred years from now, will footnote America as a historical curiosity where people once enjoyed private property rights and limited government but it all returned to mankind's normal state of affairs -- arbitrary abuse and control by the powerful elite.”
Walter Williams

"Nothing short of total repudiation of our entrenched systems can rescue America, We are under the control of a two-headed, one party political system. Wall Street controls our financial lives; the media manipulates our minds. These systems cannot be changed from within. There is no alternative. Without a revolution, these institutions will bankrupt the country, keep fighting failed wars, start new ones, and hold us in perpetual intellectual subjugation."
Gerald Celente

“No doubt the majority of Americans didn’t want to go to war against the British in 1776. But would anyone say now that it was the wrong thing to do? No doubt the majority of Americans didn’t want a civil war. Both those wars were, at their core, about state’s rights. About oppressive governments trying to overreach their authority and impose unlawful mandates on the states. It was about their freedom to do what they wish with their lives.
I think we have met the enemy and it is us. We’re a bunch of fast food nourished, MTV anesthetized, shopping mall, plug-in-drug (aka television) addicts who will do anything to preserve that way of life at least until we die.
After that who cares? We’re a clinically obese, socially disconnected, politically inept and intellectually bankrupt nation of douche bags who deserve everything they get.”
Don Cooper

“You might think that after a century of tyranny, total war, genocide, and mass murder, not to mention organized robbery through taxation, inflation, debauched currencies, and redistribution, all of which have generated moral corruption and social decay- well, a little skepticism toward the modern state itself is long overdue. But the news media still persist in the faith that government is the natural instrument for the betterment of the human condition. If you believe that, you can believe that a tiger can be taught to pull a plow.”
Joe Sobran
“The best government is a benevolent tyranny tempered by an occasional assassination.”
Voltaire

From the Darkness:
"Let me be clear: we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States," Napolitano said in a statement. "We don't have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence."
DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano defending the fascist, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” report.

"In both magnitude and probability, climate change is an enormous problem." EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson

The Audacious One confers with his economic advisers:

The state protects us from flowers:

“Democracy is the art and science of running the circus from the monkey cage.”
H.L. Mencken

Republicans are up to their old tricks....

....while keeping watch over their benefactors:

"Peace hath higher tests of manhood, than battle ever knew.”
John Greenleaf Whittier

Democrats seem to love war, after all:

Perhaps the wrong individual is on a leash:

The state’s recruiting drives never cease:

Barry likes running with the hounds:

US Crusaders find some REAL enemies to fight…. But what about those pirates in the Homeland?

"Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment"

The Empire's handiwork on display:

“Obedience is detachment from the self. This is the most radical detachment of all. But what is the self? The self is the principle of reason and responsibility in us. It is the root of freedom, it is what makes us men.”
Bede Griffiths

He’s still just as ugly and despicable when upside down:

Lady Liberty is looking tired and worn:

Even Johnny Jackboot takes a butt break....

....after dealing with avian terrorists:

Awaiting the blessing to kill:

A Message to the Tea Party Participants

I’m afraid you decent folks will continue to be ignored. The state cares nothing about you, only what they can plunder from you. Much more radical action than yelling and waving those ugly Yankee War Flags is required to fight these abominable tyrants. This event reminded me more of a little girl's tea party in the back yard rather than a true, courageous demonstration of individual sovereignty by liberty-loving men and women.

Quit cooperating with these bastards! Quit paying taxes! Lose your nationalism and state allegiance. All governments are evil- especially yours, because it gets away with so much. Arm yourself to the teeth and defend yourself from these pirates, if necessary! The only language they understand is steely resistance and what comes out of the point of a gun.
The fact remains that as long as the state exists you will suffer this tyranny. De-legitimize and abolish the state and this tyranny will disappear. It's really that simple.

Don’t forget- you voters only have yourselves to blame. By voting and participating in their scam elections (given the choice between Socialist Sam and Fascist Fred), you grant the criminal state ownership over your life and property. What else will men do but abuse this power?

Continuing to vote and expecting better results is as irrational as a rape victim screaming to her assailant, “Give me more! Give me more!”

Quotes of the Week

From the Light:
“Our society wastes so much time and resources on tit-for-tat politics. I know. Game theory says "they force our hand." But we must acknowledge that the decline of Tocqueville's America is due in large measure to diverting resources and manpower to titanic tug-o-wars over which party gets to be our masters.”
Max Borders

“No matter how much the government controls the economic system, any problem will be blamed on whatever small zone of freedom that remains.”
Sheldon Richman

"In the United States, government has become expert at manipulating both left-wing and right-wing ideologies. It keeps those on both ends of the spectrum set at each other’s throats in order to ensure the government’s continuing independence from accountability."
Paul Craig Roberts

“The chief men and women among you are pathologically driven to control everyone and everything that moves upon this planet. You have made yourselves the judge of every human activity. No god-king of the ancient world ever had the power that your systems do. You have created a world where only the neutered are safe and where only outlaws are free.”
Anonymous, referring to the governments of the earth; part of A Declaration of Separation.
“The Janus-faced American hegemon [Obama] speaks out of both sides of his mouth, and in two voices: one for the masses, who delight in his soaring idealism and seeming ability to express their deepest aspirations, and one for the elites, who hear a promise of continuity rather than change.”
Justin Raimondo

"Is the state capable of killing to achieve its goals? One could always ask Randy Weaver and the Waco survivors, not to mention the families of tens of thousands of soldiers and millions of Vietnamese and Iraqis."
Michael Gaddy

“Traditionalists should have no difficulty understanding why the modern state is so corrupt and destructive. Such is the enviable result of concentrating power in human hands. Without the state men would still be dangerous, but would not have their disposal an institution in which power is so concentrated and unchecked. Reforming the state is impossible and utopian: to reform the state would require reforming human nature.”
Daniel MacCarthy

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human liberty. It is the argument of tyrants, it is the creed of slaves.”
William Pitt
“Coercive interference in human action invariably leads to unintended- and undesirable- consequences. More government power to interfere will just lead to more unintended consequences (and demands for more power)."
Philip Murray

From the Darkness:
"The global financial system as we know it was forged by deregulation underpinned by a belief in free markets. That approach failed. The task now is to prove it can be set running again with better brakes and steering... By the end of the week, the world will have a clearer idea whether the system can survive."
Peter Thal Larsen , Financial Times

"Market forces, if left unchecked, will lead to asset bubbles and ultimately a disastrous market clearing in the form of a financial crisis like the current one."
A report from the Chinese central bank [What would you expect Communists to say?]

"President Obama is disarming America. Never before has a president so ravaged the military at a time of war."
Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.), responding to the miserly defense cuts proposed by B. Obama

"America, like every other nation, has made mistakes and has its flaws. But for more than two centuries we have strived at great cost and sacrifice to form a more perfect union."
Barry Obama

“There are certain things only a government can do. And one of those things is ensuring that the foods we eat, and the medicines we take, are safe and do not cause us harm.”
Barry Obama, asking Congress for $1 billion in new funds to add FDA inspectors and modernize laboratories.

“It is difficult to imagine producing behavior change of this magnitude through education alone, even if government devoted massive resources to the task. Only heftier taxes will significantly reduce consumption.”
Dr. Thomas R. Friedan, New York City health Commissioner, in an article advocating “hefty” taxes on sodas and sports drinks containing sugar.

....and for those a bit hard of hearing or hestiant to believe:

The trend continues:

When you find yourself in the spotlight, ....

....work to dodge the marching minions....

Boot lickers on parade:

We got your back. The regime is safe to kill and plunder as long as they got the fire power:

Not satisfied with killing abroad, US Crusaders bring their killing skills back home:

Even dead men need to be searched:

"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth."

John F. Kennedy

The Kim-ster makes a rare appearance:

"Love is a gross exaggeration of the difference between one person and everybody else."

A Pop-In by the Two-Face

Re: Obama makes surprise visit to Iraq:

Some withdrawal! 50,000 troops remain? Only a media protected politi-gangster could get away with that kind of double talking newspeak. If this Iraq escapade of “liberation” is so successful why does the US supreme leader have to enter under the cover of secrecy? Then, he’s too cowardly to even travel a few miles further because of a bit of bad weather?

Iraq, in reality, is nothing more than a colony of the imperialist US Government. Iraq is now just another of the USG’s livestock pens- a source of human capital and natural resources for the state parasites to harvest and plunder as they see fit.

USG Loyalists need to understand that the state they bow to does not exist to serve them, it exists to serve the war masters that profit from the carnage and bloodshed resulting from fighting created and even imaginary enemies. Those troops need to remain to continually stir up resentment and hostility among the natives to keep the war game going- and the profits flowing- and YOUR sons and daughters (not theirs) dying.

Now, it’s OFF TO PAKISTAN for more of the same!

Maybe we’ll live to see the day when the US President/King/Dictator needs the cover of darkness and/or secrecy to travel to cities in the US! We’ll then know for sure that a great awakening has occurred among the American populace regarding their relationship with their state masters. We’ll then know for sure that the government now fears the people and the people no longer fear their government. Only then will the light of liberty shine, once again.
“When the people fear their government there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.”
Thomas Jefferson

DVD Reviews

The Station Agent:
From the same folks that brought you the delightful The Visitor. The film has the same feeling- quirky, disparate individuals bonded through circumstance, learning from and helping each other through the trials and tribulations of life.
Recommended

Body of Lies:
Interesting spy drama that illustrates how a nation’s foreign policy based on lies is never successful and only creates future problems to be solved.
Recommended

Righteous Kill:
I don’t normally watch cop dramas but the pairing of Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino was too hard to resist. The plot has just enough of a twist to avoid becoming the typical police drama.
Recommended

Flash of Genius:
A true story about Robert Kearns and his fight against the US auto industry that stole his design for the intermittent windshield wiper. A great story of personal integrity and resilience. IP debaters will have differing opinions about his course of action.
Recommended

Jimi Hendrix- Blue Wild Angel:
This film documents Hendrix’s performance at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, which turned out to be his final concert. He died just 3 weeks later. Some incredible music. “Machine Gun” and “Red House,” in particular, would have blown the roof off if the concert had been held indoors.
Recommended

The Changeling:
A Clint Eastwood directed true story about a woman in the 1920’s and 30’s who fights an incredibly corrupt L.A. police department during the search for her missing son.
Recommended

The Lone Gunmen:
This was an entertaining series spin-off from The X-Files. Short lived, though enjoyable while it lasted. Make sure to at least view the pilot episode- the boys work to stop a government plot to fly a US airliner into the World Trade Center. The program aired just months before the real 9-11.
Recommended

Get Smart:
Its too bad Steve Carell didn’t have the writing talent to back up his comedic abilities. There’s only a couple scenes funny enough to laugh out loud. This movie could have been so much better- with the possibility of multiple sequels. But, they blew it.
Not recommended

Mongol:
This drama examines the early life of Genghis Khan. Interesting and quite gripping at times. I couldn’t help but think how men, hundreds of years later, continue to blindly follow a leader to their deaths, sacrificing themselves for some ambiguous notion, be it pride or nationalism.
Recommended

Journey to the Center of the Earth:
This wound up being better than expected. Brendan Fraser seems to be the perfect actor to lead these kind of light, sci-fi romps, as he was in the “Mummy” series.
Recommended

Captains and the Kings:
This was a TV miniseries that aired in 1976. Based on an historical novel, the drama examines the captains of industry and kingmakers that heavily influence American history. Though it gets a little soap-opera-ish at times, the series is well written and acted throughout, particularly by Richard Jordan, Patty Duke, and Henry Fonda.
Recommended

Lakeview Terrace:
Samuel Jackson is cast perfectly as the bullying, holier-than-thou cop that seems so prevalent today in the law enforcement field. The director keeps a constant state of tension throughout the film that helps hold your interest.
Recommended

Chronicles of Narnia- Prince Caspian:
If you like predictable Saturday morning TV fare, this one’s for you. At least there’s some nice scenery to look at.
Not recommended

Gonzo- The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S Thompson:
Nice look at the life of the gonzo journalist. Lots of rare film footage and audio tapes, as well as interviews from a number of folks who crossed his path.

Quotes of the Week

From the Light:
“We used to laugh at foreign countries. They protected their auto industries...and paid fortunes for inferior cars. They pretended that their government hacks could do a better job of running an economy than hacks working for private industry. Their central banks printed money to try to boost domestic consumption. They meddled in markets. They fiddled their currency. Ha. Ha.”
Bill Bonner

"Economics bears within itself the very principles by which God has made it to be governed. The Law of Supply and Demand is not dependant upon Congress. It was not invented by the whim of elected or appointed regulators. It is not governed by the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund or the European Union.”
Bill Jenkins

“A defeat on principle is not an overthrow, while a victory by compromise is a defeat.”
John C, Calhoun

“A patriot was one stood with his country because his country stood for right. But should his country turn toward the wrong, then a patriot must stand against his country. A true patriot as well as a genuine leader must always take the higher ground of God’s law when confronted with the evils of man’s law.”
David Vaughn, in “Give Me Liberty, The Uncompromising Statesmanship of Patrick Henry.”

“Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice.”
Thomas Paine

“Communism is a murderous failure. Socialism is communism with movie stars.”
Michael J. Bates

“If you’re a legislator, please, don’t bring home the bacon; I’m choking on it. If you’re a voter, don’t covet the 20 pieces of silver, unless you like hearing a revenue agent tell you, “Squeal like a pig, boy!” See where the pork comes from? It comes from little piglets like you that are in the government’s pigpen.” Rob Moody

“Our theme with respect to government should always be - end it because you can’t mend it.”
Bill Field, Nicholls State University

“What is a left socialist but a Marxist without a gun.”
Don Feder:

“Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”
Alexis De Tocqueville

“This is the key to history. Terrific energy is expended- civilizations are built up- excellent institutions devised; but each time something goes wrong. Some fatal flaw always brings back the selfish and cruel people to the top and it all slides back into misery and ruin.”
C.S. Lewis, “Mere Christianity”

From the Darkness:
"It is my hope that the steps I am announcing today will go a long way toward answering many of the questions people may have about the future of GM and Chrysler. But just in case there are still nagging doubts, let me say it as plainly as I can - if you buy a car from Chrysler or General Motors, you will be able to get your car serviced and repaired, just like always. Your warranty will be safe. In fact, it will be safer than it's ever been. Because starting today, the United States government will stand behind your warranty."
Master Obama

"It's hugely important that we be seen as good neighbors, as friends, certainly fierce warriors who will go after the enemy and stay after them -- but also as individuals who try to avoid civilian casualties whenever possible and are seen again as supporting the people and trying to help them achieve a better life."
Gen. David Petraeus, specifically referring to the fight on the Afghan side of the border.

"There are probably already too many people on the planet."
"We need to continue to decrease the growth rate of the global population; the planet can't support many more people."
Dr Nina Fedoroff, the science and technology advisor to the US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton.
